The month of December is always a very busy month for our Residents with the lead up to the Christmas Festivities. The theme was “Sparkle and Glitter” and so Residents were very busy preparing for Christmas by making cards, table decorations, dressing the trees and enjoying many more festive themed activities and trips out. Here are just some of the things our Residents were up to:

On Friday 2nd December Residents from all three homes got together at Redfield’s Garden Centre. Residents enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the garden centre taking in all the wonderful displays of Christmas Trees, decorations and lights. The Residents were especially taken by a very cute moving reindeer which they all wanted to bring back to the home. Residents finished off the morning perfectly with a nice cup of tea and coffee and some rather yummy biscuits.

During the afternoon Residents teamed up in the lounge to decorate the Christmas tree that takes pride of place in our lounge. The afternoon prompted many stories of yesteryear Christmas’s, carol singing and of course a cup of tea and mince pies.

Hill House set the scene on Tuesday 6th December for all things that “Glitter and Sparkle” with Resident’s from Woodlands attending for a Strictly Come Dancing themed Christmas Tea Dance. We were very lucky to welcome a wonderful ballroom dancing couple Anne and Pete Hulls. The Residents initially met the couple when they attended the Princes Hall Tea Dance in Aldershot, which they attend monthly and invited them to come and dance for the other Residents who were unable to attend. They kindly accepted and gave a truly magnificent performance of a variety of dances included the Waltz, Quick Step and Rumba. Staff and Residents also joined in with the dancing and the afternoon was finished off with a splendid afternoon tea. It was a great afternoon enjoyed by all the Residents and staff and our thanks go to Anne and Pete Hulls for entertaining us all so wonderfully.

Wednesday 7th December was yet another busy day, Residents enjoyed an afternoon of singing Christmas carols accompanied by our lovely volunteer Viv playing the Ukulele. dscn3144

During the evening Residents from Woodlands attended the Fleet Lions Christmas Concert held at the Church on the Heath at Elvetham Heath. It was as always a superb evening which included performances from a number of local choirs as well as the brilliantly talented trio ‘Champagne at The Blitz’. The evening was topped off as ever by a wonderful comedy sketch by the Fleet Lions, which was a very fitting tribute to Dads Army. All our Residents had a fabulous time and really enjoyed the evening. We would like to pass on our utmost thanks to all the Fleet Lions for organising such a great evening and all the transport arrangements.

On Monday 19th December Residents from Woodlands took a trip up to Hill House for a Christmas musical performance by Professor Andrew Knight and his wife Mrs Knight. This is always one of the Residents favourite Christmas Performances as it really is an amazing lively and interactive afternoon. Residents not only enjoyed listening to a huge variety of musical instruments being played so beautifully but also got the chance to take a real ‘hands on’ and engaging experience with music whatever their ability. It was a fabulous afternoon and Residents talked about it all the way back to Woodlands.
