The theme for January was “Happy New Year” so residents have been busy celebrating and reminiscing about the New Year and welcoming in 2017. They have also celebrated Burns night with Scottish dancing to a traditional Scottish bagpiper as well as Scottish themed quizzes and activities. Here are just a few things our residents have been up to during the month.
On Friday 6th January residents from Woodlands and Hill Brow took a trip out in to Fleet for a spot of January sale shopping. Residents enjoyed a leisurely walk around the Hart Shopping Centre browsing the shops. We finished our morning at the residents’ favourite café ‘More Than Coffee’ with a nice cup of tea and our usual slice of Victoria sponge.
Badshot Lea Garden Centre was the destination for residents from Woodlands and Hill Brow on of Friday 13th January. They enjoyed a drink and some biscuits in the restaurant before enjoying a relaxed walk around the garden centre. There were many new displays to look at, which prompted many conversations about the many different items there were to buy these days compared to garden centres of yesteryear.
On Friday 20th January residents from Woodlands took a trip out to the pub The Wyvern where they met up with residents from Hill Brow and Hill House. It was a lovely morning out and a get together to have a good old chat over a drink before arriving home, back in time for a fish and chip lunch.
Hill House was the host of the Charity Quiz night on Wednesday 25th January. Residents, family and friends from all three of our homes joined together for a bit of friendly competition to raise funds for our worthwhile charity “Families supporting care”. It was a really fun evening with rounds of varying questions. Residents especially liked the music round which was played so wonderfully on the piano by our very own Louis. The wining team was Princess Eugenie’s Troops and the evening raised £270. Friday 27th January was a very busy day which started in the morning with residents from all three homes enjoying a trip to Redfields Garden Centre. Residents had a walk around the garden centre and especially liked looking at the wonderful array of colourful primrose tubs. We all finished the morning in the restaurant and enjoyed a well-earned hot drink and some yummy chocolate biscuits.
Later in the afternoon residents enjoyed a trip up to our sister home Hill House for an afternoon of celebrating all things Scottish with a Burns Night afternoon party. There was plenty of Scottish dancing, poems by Sir Robert Burns, and to top it off, a traditional Scottish bag pipe player. It was a great afternoon which the residents really enjoyed, it was topped off nicely with a tot of whiskey and some Scottish Shortbread.
