June has been yet another very busy month for our residents with the theme “The Great Outdoors”.
Residents have been enjoying the wonderful weather by getting out and about in our gardens doing a variety of activities. They have also been busy planting out their raised vegetable garden, as well as enjoying many varied and interesting trips out. Here are some of the things that they have been up to in more detail:
On Friday 2nd June, residents from all three homes enjoyed a trip out to Badshot Lea garden centre. They all had a gentle stroll around the centre, doing a spot of shopping, before all meeting up in the café for tea, coffee and biscuits.
It was a shopping trip to Fleet on Friday 9th June for Woodlands residents in order to pick up some essentials. When all the shopping was done it was time to relax by meeting up with residents from our other two homes in café Fratelli’s. Residents took the opportunity to have a good chat and catch up over tea, coffee and biscuits, then headed home in time for a fish and chips lunch.
We had a lovely, warm, sunny afternoon for a trip out to The Princes Hall in Aldershot on Tuesday 13th June. Residents from Woodlands and Hill Brow enjoyed a wonderful tea dance, where they got a chance to dance the afternoon away to a selection of well-known nostalgic music.
The residents’ monthly session of ‘Singing for the Brain’ with Barbara Raynor was on Wednesday 14th June. Woodlands residents travelled up to Hill House and joined residents from our other homes for a wonderful afternoon of singing and movement. Residents love these afternoons and yet again, it provided much fun and laughter, especially when singing ‘I want a banana’, which seems to be one of our residents’ and staff’s favourite!! The afternoon was finished off perfectly with tea, coffee and cake.
All things from the 1940’s was the theme on Friday 16th June, with our homes celebrating NAPA care home open day alongside our annual staff talent competition. Three teams competed for the prestigious title this year, these included The Adminions (admin office staff), the ‘Nuns on the Run’ (Hill Brow staff) and ‘Lambden’s Lovelies’ (Hill House staff). The performances where all very different and very unique and show just how much talent and sense of fun all our staff have. It was a fabulous afternoon with plenty of smiles and laughter all around, with each team winning a prize, but the overall winners where Kim and the ‘Lambden’s Lovelies’. Congratulations to Kim and her team and a big well done to all those that took part!
Residents from all three homes took a trip out to Robert May’s School in Odiham for the summer tea dance during the afternoon of Thursday 22nd June. They had a fabulous afternoon listening and dancing to a wonderful array of nostalgic music whilst enjoying a wide variety of homemade sandwiches, cakes, tea and Pimm’s, made especially for them by the pupils of the school. They were also treated to a wonderful solo of ‘Somewhere over the rainbow’, as well as piano playing and a raffle. We would like to say a huge thankyou to all the staff and pupils from Robert May’s School for a truly wonderful afternoon.
Residents from Woodlands and Hillbrow met up at the Wyvern pub on Friday 23rd June. It was a lovely sunny morning and a chance to have a catch up and a chat about what they had all been up to throughout the week. Residents enjoyed a drink and some crisps before heading back for a fish and chip lunch.
It was a wonderful relaxed morning out to Frensham Pond Hotel on Wednesday 28th June. A large group of residents from all three homes joined together to feed the ducks and swans whilst enjoying the beautiful views of the pond. The morning was finished off perfectly with a nice warm cup of tea or coffee in the lounges of the hotel whilst enjoying a good old chat, arriving back in time for lunch.
