The month of September was not only a busy month for lots of autumn inspired activities and outings but was also the month of our annual seaside trip to Southsea. The theme for September was “Changing of the Seasons” which incorporated all the changes that our residents are now seeing especially in our beautiful gardens.
Here are just some of the things our residents have been up to throughout the month:
On Friday 1st September residents from all three of our homes met up in the Emporium in Fleet for tea, coffee or a glass of wine. It was a beautiful sunny morning and a chance for our residents to have a good chat and catch up on the week’s events over a drink and of course our usual piece of cake or one of the residents favourite a bag of cheese and onion crisps.
It was a sunny albeit crisp day on Thursday 7th September for our residents’ annual seaside trip to Southsea. Residents from Woodlands travelled by minibus to their favourite little restaurant called Rocksby’s right on the sea front of Southsea. Residents enjoyed a fabulous lunch of fish and chips, with ice cream for afters, washed down with a nice glass of wine. Residents took the chance to take in the amazing views of the sea whilst enjoying their lunch, this being one of reasons the residents enjoy coming here so much, oh and because of the size of the fish!! After lunch it was walk along the promenade for those that fancied it or chance to sit and take in the views of the sea with its large number of passing ships. This prompted many conversations of where the ships might be going or coming from and what cargos they might be carrying. After some adventurous stories and a refreshing cup of tea and coffee it was back on the minibus homeward bound. The seaside trip is always one of resident’s favourite trips out and all our residents commented on what a great day out they had all had.
It was a trip to Hill house on Wednesday 13th September for our monthly singing for the brain with Barbara Raynor. All three homes really enjoy these very interactive sessions which included some of the resident’s favourite songs such as ‘I want a Banana!’, ‘Pick a Bale of Cotton’ and ‘London’s Burning!’. The afternoon was finished off perfectly with tea, coffee and homemade cake.
It was a lovely and sunny morning out at the Wyvern Pub, Church Crookham on Friday 22nd September. Residents from all three homes met up to enjoy a good chat over a drink and some crisps and arrived back at their homes in time for a fish and chips lunch.
Friday 29th September was a very busy day for our residents, with a trip to Badshot Lea garden centre in the morning. Residents enjoyed a relaxed stroll around the centre, looking at the Christmas decorations that were already being put out on display. We also visited the small animals section where our residents especially liked the cute little guinea pigs. After a good look around, it was then off to the café for a well-earned cup of tea, coffee and cakes.
During the afternoon Woodlands residents took a trip up to Hill House to enjoy an afternoon of harvest celebrations country and western style. Entertainment was provided by a very vibrant musical duo called ‘Nev and Claire’. It was a fun filled afternoon filled with lots of singing and dancing, and the day was finished off wonderfully with tea and cake.
