February was themed “Love makes the world go around” it was a joyous time of reflection of people we hold special to us. Residents enjoyed various activities relating to our theme throughout the month including quizzes, sing-alongs, outings and the ever popular cooking club.

On Friday 2nd February residents enjoyed a trip to Badshot Lea Garden centre. The Garden Centre was a picture with its beautiful displays reminding us that Easter was not far around the corner. We met up with residents from the other 2 homes for a chat and relaxing cuppa with some delicious chocolate biscuits and short bread.

Tuesday 13th February marked the start of Lent and of course “Shrove Tuesday”. Celebrations were marked with residents tossing pancakes and the staff taking part in a pancake race around the lounges at Woodlands tossing pancakes whilst hopping on one leg with a Zimmer frame. The winner was Andras beating Amy by just .7 of a second. Andras also gave the residents a brilliant demonstration of how he slaved away in the kitchen that morning making about 50 pancakes for everyone to enjoy at lunch time.

Wednesday 14th February, “St Valentine’s Day”. Residents enjoyed posing for some great “Selfies” with props to decorate our Valentines picture wall. The room diners were treated to a single red rose on their breakfast trays, whilst the other diners enjoyed bright valentine’s décor on their tables. Members of the cooking club relished in making some special valentines edibles which included delicious heart shaped pizzas, tasty decorated cupcakes and Strawberry, marshmallow and brownie skewers for dessert.

On Friday 16th February our Woodlands residents challenged the blustery weather to join our other 2 homes for a Special Valentines trip to Redfields Garden for a relaxing brew in the “Cafe Theatre” and to take in the beautiful displays. The flowers growing in the green house were a picture reminding residents of how they had planting, manicured and tended with pride to their own gardens.

Friday 23rd February marked the monthly return to our much favoured, local pub “The Wyvern” with whom we have built a great relationship. It was a special time to relax with residents over a tipple or brew whilst reminiscing and chatting over the past week’s events.

Residents at Woodlands enjoy keeping active with their weekly physiotherapy classes on a Thursday morning as well as other adventurous activities. February marked the introduction of “Golf Putting”. Everyone involved had a great time, some through reminiscing and others through the discovery of a new-found talent!

Residents enjoy having the time to pursue their own interests. At Woodlands we offer a range of individual activities for residents to enjoy from card games, adult colouring and crosswords to an extensive range of jigsaw puzzles to compliment their own hobbies and past times.
