Woodlands was abuzz with activity last week, as a vibrant celebrations unfolded in honour of the 80th anniversary of D-Day. From elegant garden parties to a charming barge voyage, the spirit of historical remembrance was filled in the air.

The sun shone brightly over Woodlands as residents gathered for a special afternoon garden tea party, commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The air buzzed with a festive spirit, a blend of nostalgia and gratitude for the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought for our freedom. The centrepiece of the afternoon was, of course, the delicious homemade cakes. From classic Victoria sponge to decadent chocolate cake, each bite brought smiles to the faces of the residents. Laughter filled the air as they reminisced over teacups, sharing stories of their own experiences during the war years. But the celebration was more than just a delicious feast. It was a chance to remember and honour the sacrifices of those who fought in the Normandy landings. Residents proudly waved Union Jacks, a symbol of national pride and unity. The afternoon was filled with wartime songs, sung with gusto and heartfelt emotion, transporting everyone back to a time of resilience and hope. The D-Day commemoration at Woodlands was a celebration of history, of unity, and of remembrance. It was a joyful afternoon filled with laughter, music, and camaraderie, all while paying tribute to the heroes of D-Day and their legacy of courage and sacrifice.

Boat Trip
Our residents embarked on an extraordinary outing today, on a barge trip along the picturesque Basingstoke Canal. As the barge glided along the tranquil waters, the group was treated to a kaleidoscope of serene natural beauty. From the lush greenery that lined the canal to the gentle ripples that danced upon its surface, the scenery was a feast for the senses. The barge meandered through a verdant landscape, providing unique perspectives of the surrounding countryside. The outing was not only an opportunity for the residents to escape their daily routines but also to connect with each other and with nature. The shared experience created lasting memories and strengthened the bonds between the residents of Woodlands.

Dementia Choir

A heart warming gathering took place at Hillhouse with the residents of Woodlands and Hill Brow. It was time for the monthly Dementia Choir, an occasion where residents from all four homes come together to share music and forge bonds.
The choir began with a bit of a warm up session and then our residents started with a selection of beloved hymns, their voices blending harmoniously. The melodies filled the room with warmth and nostalgia, evoking memories and touching the hearts of all present. Residents swayed gently to the rhythm; their eyes closed in contentment.
After a series of uplifting hymns, it was time to dance! With infectious enthusiasm, our residents danced to lively tunes, their laughter and smiles illuminating the room. This dancing session provided a wonderful opportunity for residents to socialize and connect with each other.

Residents Meeting

Every month residents eagerly gather for their meeting, led by Alison. This meeting serves as a vital platform for opening dialogue.
The agenda covers a wide range of topics that directly impact the well-being of residents. From updates on any changes happening in the home (maintenance) to upcoming activities and events to look forward to for the month, no detail is left unaddressed. The highlight of each meeting is the welcoming of the new residents and the introduction of the new staff members.

Alison takes pride in acknowledging the hard work and dedication of her staff. Each month, she presents awards to employee who have exceeded expectations in providing exceptional care, loyalty and adoration.

Residents are encouraged to share their thoughts, concerns, and suggestions. This feedback is invaluable in shaping decisions and ensuring that the home remains responsive to the needs of its residents.

After a very long time, residents willingly grabbed the opportunity to nominate and vote for the staff member who they believed deserved special recognition for their outstanding contributions. One of the residents voted overwhelmingly for one individual who had consistently exceeded expectations and displayed unwavering dedication to the well-being of the residents at Woodlands. It was a heart warming moment to witness.
