About Us

Woodlands and Hill Brow has been a family-run concern for over 50 years.

When Gillian Lee first started to look after her Grandmother, she was unable to find alternative suitable residential accommodation for her, and so, established Woodlands in 1976. When that proved to be a success Gill, a trained Nurse, decided to take in more Residents. She had an extension built to her home and the rest, as they say, is history.

Hill Brow was purpose designed and built in 1986. Alison, her daughter, also trained as a Nurse and holds a degree in Nursing from City University / St Barts Hospital, London with a Diploma in Elderly Care. She left the NHS as Ward Manager of an elderly care unit at The Royal Free Hospital when she assumed control of both homes following her mother’s retirement in 1998.

Since 1976, the family’s commitment has been to provide the very best care for the elderly, whatever their needs. This has been paramount and rewarded by achieving Excellent and Outstanding status in numerous CQC and Environmental Health inspections. The family are still  involved in the daily activities, and Alison’s daughter Anna has been working in the homes for the last 5 years. So, we may be looking forward to a third generation of the family to lead the way!

Meet the Lee family who have specialised in elderly care for over 50 years

In August 2011, we proudly welcomed residents to Hill House, a luxurious, purpose-built 56-bedroom Nursing and Dementia home. At Hill House, we are dedicated to providing the highest level of care and the best facilities in a warm and comfortable home. Continuing our commitment to compassionate care, in 2018, we opened Farnham Mill, a 60-bed nursing home.

Our family ethos is to care for the residents as if they were our own family and it is important that our homes are happy places to live and work in.

Looking after Great Grandma Lee

Gill Lee opens Woodlands in Fleet: the first residents included her own grandmother and great aunt. The high-quality care offered was revolutionary Gill quickly gained a reputation for excellence in care.

Expansion into Ewshot, Surrey

Geoff, Gill’s husband, supports in opening Hill Brow, a care home with 29 large en-suite rooms, and the first purpose designed home in the area. Woodlands expands to 39 en-suite rooms.

Alison Lee Takes the Lead

Gill’s daughter Alison brings her NHS knowledge to develop the team for the next generation of care. This resulted in low staff turnover: permanent, dedicated staff provide the best care, and we have continued to never use agency staff to this day.

Hill House Heralds Innovative Nursing

As demand for nursing and dementia care increases, Hill House opens. This was for residents with more complex health needs. The same approach to staffing remains: to only have a permanent and highly skilled team.

A Legacy of Excellence

Alison and Gabriel’s children Ben and Anna have both worked in the homes from their early teens. They both look forward to continue being part of the homes as they grow and evolve.

Our Staff

We firmly believe a care home is only as good as the staff who work there.

A dedicated team of qualified staff look after the residents. Comprehensive training and development programmes are key to the outstanding standards of care the staff provide. We have been awarded Investors in People Gold status underlining Alison Lee’s commitment to providing excellent care, and providing good training and development for her staff.

Within our team, we are fortunate to have experienced trainers, teachers, and assessors available to support individuals at all stages of their training journey. When a new team member joins us, we strongly encourage them to enrol in the National Diploma training course, enabling them to become an integral part of our exceptionally skilled team.

Vicki Morl is our Manager at Woodlands; she joined the company in 2021. Vicki has over 29 years of experience, having worked as a deputy manager before becoming the Home Manager in 2025. She holds a Diploma in Health & Social Care and Leadership.

Bev Sines is the Manager at Hill Brow, she joined us in 2014 and has worked as a carer, senior carer and deputy manager before becoming the Manager.

In her first CQC inspection as a home manager Bev achieved an Outstanding Overall rating which only the top 3% of homes achieve.

We are extremely proud that both Deputy Managers at Woodlands and Hill Brow began their healthcare careers with us, and have continued to develop their skills and both have successfully promoted into management roles.

Development and leadership courses are often taken externally as are the more specialist subjects relating to elderly care.

We pride ourselves on always being fully staffed and never having to use agency staff, with a staff turnover of under 10% this year.

Charities

In 2011 friends of Woodlands and Hill Brow set up a charity. This charity is called Families Supporting Care and aims to help elderly people in different ways. Where possible it will help support Residents whose funds diminish during their stay as well as supporting the local Alzheimers Café, the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice and other charities for the elderly.

Over the last 15 years the charity has helped support over 60 residents to stay in their chosen care home. The Trustees all have a close connection with the homes. It is the Trustees who decide how the funds are allocated.

The friends of Woodlands and Hill Brow are always looking for volunteers to help organise and support activities, such as a secretary and fundraisers.

Fundraising is an on-going commitment and funds raised from the different held in the home is supplemented by a regular donation from Alison Lee family.

Woodlands and Hill Brow Care Homes are built on strong family values.
