Can we please keep the celebration going?

The residents have had absolutely wonderful, very busy week, full of activities related to the platinum jubilee. Not to mention the tea parties and outings.

We started our week by decorating our entire home ready for the platinum jubilee. The residents and staff teamed up to do the decorations. We also did a word search where the residents were asked to find as much words as possible using the words “PLATINUM JUBILEE”. The residents always surprise us by finding more words than we expect.

In the afternoon, we made the chocolate biscuit cake, apparently it is know known to be the Queen’s favourite cake. The cake tasted amazing and the residents enjoyed it with their afternoon tea.

On Tuesday, we baked a cake for the Jubilee bake off. The residents helped from measuring all the ingredients to mixing them together and finally decorating it. Because it was for the competition everyone went the extra mile to make the cake look and taste the best.

The Hill House team had organized a bake-off challenge for all of our 4 homes on Wednesday. So we took the cake we had made the day before and presented it to the judges. We won the awarded of Best in Show. We are all very proud and we are also proud of be a part of the competition and to represent our home.

It was a great chance to meet up with our friends from Farnham Mill, Hill House and Hill Brow and we enjoyed our afternoon tea together.

On Thursday, we celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a BBQ in the garden.

A big thank you to the staff for cooking a very delicious BBQ. The residents absolutely loved it.

We might have had some members of the royal family join in for the BBQ.

After BBQ, the residents absolutely loved participating in a right royal pig race. For fun, we named the pigs after members of the royal family. The residents also had a little flutter on their pigs and for some reason Prince Charles kept on coming first on the race. We all wondered why.

On Friday morning, we had a royal quiz round. We had about 50 questions on the royal family and the residents did very well and answered almost all of them correctly.

As it was a special week, we ordered in and had fish and chips for our lunch. The residents absolutely loved it.

In the afternoon, we had a live performance by Steph. As the weather was so welcoming, we decided to do it in the garden. The residents sang and danced along with her while enjoying sun and some refreshing drinks.

On Saturday morning, Louis sing play piano for us as the residents gathered in the lounge sang along with him. We always admire how effortlessly he plays the piano.

In the afternoon, we had the Royal Tea Party. Our residents love tea parties as they are always a wonderful way to socialise with each other whenever we hold one. We had delicious cupcakes of red, white and blue symbolising the national flag.

On Sunday, we held a Grand Street Party. Unfortunately, because of the rain we could not hold it in the garden but the party was still a huge success. Our manager and a senior carer dressed as a guard and a sergeant, which brought a smile to the residents faces.

The kitchen staff did a very good job with the food as they prepared delicious sandwiches, sausage rolls, pigs in blanket, scones, cakes and much more.

The residents had a choice of either red or white wine with their meal and we ended the street party by singing the national anthem.
