We had an amazing time in Woodlands with the family joining us for our summer BBQ.
We had lots of exciting events throughout the week as we followed our theme of a world cruise.
Since most of our hard-working carers are from Nepal. We though it would be brilliant to let them represent their culture. So, on Monday, we had a Nepalese day. We started the day with some of the staff performing a traditional Nepalese dance. Everyone loved this unique dance and couldn’t resist joining in and learning some Nepalese dance moves.
Following the performance, everyone enjoyed an authentic Nepalese curry and rice for their lunch, which was delicious.
The Gurkhas (Nepalese-British army) has such a strong connection with the British army and the residents are always curious about the history of Gurkhas. So, after lunch, the residents watched the documentary of Gurkhas which described what they are known for.
NAMASTE…..
One of our residents wearing Nepalese hat and waving the Nepalese flag.
Nepalese dance performed beautifully by our activity’s coordinator Shila.
On Wednesday, we had an Italian day.
Since Italy is very famous for its pizza and varieties of Pasta, the residents decided to make pizzas in our cooking club. Showing amazing team work our residents had them finished in no time.
For lunch the residents had Spaghetti Bolognese and Tiramisu.
The residents then had a very relaxing afternoon with a cheese and wine tasting.
On Thursday. We had a Germany day.
We did Giant crossword in the morning and enjoyed German sausage, sauerkraut and mash for lunch.
In the afternoon the residents very much German beer tasting and had pretzels for snacks.
The world cruise theme had our residents share their interesting travel stories.
On Friday we had Spanish day,
In the morning, the residents did exercises with the physiotherapist and also helped with flower arranging as every week.
We could not have Spanish day without the flamingo dance.
One of our carers did the honour of showing us some of her Spanish flamingo moves which she had been learning just for us. We all attempted to learn some moves and had a good giggle in the process.
In the afternoon, the residents enjoyed sangria with fresh fruit and some crisps.
On Saturday we had the family BBQ.
It was lovely to be introduced by residents to their family members. We hope our guests enjoyed the food and the choice of drinks.
We also had the talented Natasha perform live for us. She brought an extra sparkle to the party. The residents and and staff joined in as they sang and danced along with her.
All whole team worked really hard to make the event a huge success so Debbie (the manager) was kind enough to show her appreciation for the hard work with beautiful flowers for everyone.
