At woodlands we include all cultures and traditions of different countries in our activities, it gives our residents an exciting opportunity to learn about different countries and enjoy new activities on a weekly basis.
This week we celebrated Chinese new year in woodlands and gained a wealth of information about the country China.
Monday, we had Chinese art and crafts. Our residents really enjoyed colouring the Chinese dragons and worked together to decorate the board for the Chinese new year.
Tuesday, we had a live performance by the singer Natasha. She touched our residents with her soothing voice and fabulous dancing. Our residents always love to see and listen to her.
Wednesday morning, we had one of our care partners David run a quiz for our residents. After the quiz, some of our residents fancied a few games of quoits and skittles.
In the afternoon, activities had arranged a word search. The words for this week were “ Chinese New Year” and our residents did great work finding as many words as possible.
Thursday morning, we had beautiful flowers delivered to us. Some of our residents were kind enough and offered to help arrange the flowers and decorate our home with them.
Thursday and Friday, we had a staff appreciation event in our home. The staff were offered Filipino breakfast, lunch, and supper as an appreciation for all the hard work they put in ensuring the best comfort of our residents.
Our residents also enjoyed tasting some Filipino food and sweets.
Thursday afternoon, we had a game of Bingo.
We started our Friday with mobility focused chair based exercises. We exercise every morning. Sometimes we have other forms of exercise such as parachute games, balloon bounce and Table Tennis.
Despite the cold weather, we are not missing out on our garden walks.
In the afternoon, we had an interactive game of hangman which is one of the favourite activities of our residents.
Saturday morning, we focused on beauty and hygiene. Our residents love to have their nails cleaned, trimmed and to try new varnishes at least once a week.
The million dollar smile we have on our residents faces after they have a new set of nails is unforgettable. They say “having our nails done, cheers us up”.
We had pamper sessions in our new nail bar. The nail bar is an area where our residents can have a one to one chat with the staff and talk about anything openly without fearing of others listening to their conversations.
Not all our residents join in the group activities. Some of our residents like to spend time on their own and do things they enjoy which is totally respected in our home.
Sometimes, our residents just want to have a chat with each other or to have a hug.
Our priority is to make our residents feel productive and encouraged with activities they are comfortable with.
Saturday, we had Chinese food tasting. Our residents enjoyed having authentic Chinese food with a glass of wine.
